GENERAL STUDIO POLICIES
Class Attendance
In dance, it is very important for all students to attend class. The choreography is affected with just one missing student. Attendance will be taken in each class daily. Students will be expected to be at 80% of classes – each student may have up to seven absences in a class. Students should never have more than two consecutive absences without the prior approval of the instructor. Please call the studio if you or your child cannot attend a class. Students may make up excused absences by attending another class with the instructor’s permission. No tuition refunds can be given on missed classes.
Tuition
Tuition may be paid in full or on a payment schedule. Tuition is pro-rated and is based on 32 weeks of dance instruction.
Tuition is due on the first of the month. If payment is not yet received by the first of the month, a reminder bill will be printed. A late fee of $15.00 will be charged if tuition is paid after the 10th of the month. If tuition is 60 days overdue, the student will not be allowed to dance until the balance is paid in full.
Payments may be made at the reception desk and are payable by check, cash, money order, or credit card. Receipts will be given upon request. When writing a check, please include the student’s name on the memo line.
Tuition refunds are not given. There will be a $25.00 charge on all NSF checks.
Automatic Payments
Automatic payment forms may be completed and put on file with the studio. Tuition payments may be routinely charged to a credit card on the first of the month. Please request an automatic payment form at the front desk.
Payment Schedules
Monthly Plan
Tuition may be pro-rated over the ten months of September through June. The amount paid is the same each month no matter the amount of lessons in a month. The first and the last monthly payments are due at the time of registration.
Quarterly Plan
The quarterly tuition plan allows for four payments: a payment is due in September, November, January, and March. This plan allows approximately a 3% discount off the monthly plan. The first payment is due at the time of registration.
Annual Plan
Annual tuition may be paid in September for the entire dance season. This plan allows approximately an 7% discount off the monthly plan. The full tuition is due at the time of registration.
Family Dance Discounts
The first child (the one who takes the most classes) pays full tuition. The second child (and other subsequent children) in the family receives a 10% discount on tuition.
Discounts are only given on regular tuition. No discounts on costumes, wigs, shoes, workshops, private lessons, additional competition practices, etc. No discounts are offered on adult classes.
Withdrawing A Student
Any student withdrawing from dance during the school year will need to give a two-week written notice to the office or in the mail. You will be charged up to that point. Proper notice will inactivate your account.
Studio Rights
The studio reserves the right to drop students from enrollment for disruptive behavior, non-payment of tuition, or extreme disregard for studio policies.
Communication Policy
Throughout the dance year, there will be several important dates, activities and information. Handouts will be placed in students mail folders located in the studio lobby. At times, reminder information will be sent via email if the student has an email address on file.
Important notes will also be posted in the studio. Please check inside the studio regularly to make sure you are aware of information.
Annual Performance
The Annual Performance will tentatively be Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9. If your child chooses to be in the show, we have the following performance standards: costumes, wigs, and tights as determined by the studio, required shoes, and make-up as determined by the instructors. Students must attend all classes during the two weeks prior to the show and must attend the performance dress rehearsal.
Pictures
Pictures will be scheduled in the spring. Group and individual photos will be taken during the week of the Annual Performance. No classes are scheduled during pictures and you may need to come at a time other than your weekly lesson. While all students must be in their class picture, there is no obligation to purchase pictures. Watch for more information in the spring.
Holidays
No classes will be held on MEA Break (October 20 - 24), Halloween (October 31), Thanksgiving (November 24 - 28), Winte Break (December 17 – January 2), Spring Break (April 15 - 26), and Memorial Day (May 30). Please make note of these dates on your calendar.
Inclement Weather
Listen to KCUE/KWNG/KLCH radio or watch KARE television for studio closings. The studio answering machine will also include a message on the status of studio closings.
Practice
Students are encouraged to practice at home. Just like music lessons, dance should be practiced throughout the week. Students can do individual steps or combinations without music. Practice DVDs will be available before the Annual Performance for students to practice routines.
Dance Dress Code
In order for students to fully participate in class and the learning experience, they should wear clothing that permits movement and allows instructors to easily view muscles and body lines making for easier corrections. Dress requirements are strictly enforced. Students not properly attired will be given one warning. The second time a teacher needs to remind a student of the dress code, the student will not be allowed in class until they have the proper dance attire.
Boys may wear above-the-knee shorts and close fitting T-shirts. Girls may wear any color or style of leotards and tights, dance unitards, or close fitting tops & bottoms to all classes except technical ballet classes. No jewelry allowed in class. Dress code in ballet classes must be pink ballet shoes, pink tights, black leotard, and hair in a bun. No sweats or jazz pants after warm-up. No loose clothing. Hip-hop dress should be more casual wear such as sweats because this is the style of the dance.
Dance Shoes
Students are required to wear specific shoes to ensure safety and ease of motion. Girls wear pink ballet shoes, tan buckle tap (combination classes), black tie tap (technique class), tan jazz gore boots (combination classes) and Bella shoes for lyrical and musical theatre classes. Boys wear black shoes for ballet, tap and jazz. Hip-Hop shoes must be clean tennis shoes for class; however, a style of uniform shoes will be selected for the Annual Performance.
Absolutely no street shoes are to be worn in the studio. Injuries may result from loose dirt or water from the bottom of dirty shoes.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
You may request to schedule a time to discuss your child’s progress and future dance plans. Teachers are very willing to make time to have a conference with you! Please make arrangements at the reception desk. Instructors cannot discuss your child’s progress between classes or the next class will start late. This is not fair to other students’ class time.
Please do not call instructors or owners on their personal cell phones or home phones or send emails to their personal accounts. All business should be transacted through the studio phone and email.
Substitutes
The studio reserves the right to provide a substitute instructor if the regularly scheduled instructor is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes.
Video Taping and Flash Photography
Videotaping and flash photography are prohibited during classes; however, they will be permitted during holiday parties and special events. Videotaping will be allowed during dress rehearsals. No videotaping is allowed during the Annual Performance. Video cameras are very distracting to students on stage. Performances will be professionally taped, and order forms will be available before and during the show. Flash photography will only be allowed at the Annual Performance during and after the finale.
Photo Release
The studio is granted permission to take photos of students to use in brochures, studio website, advertisements or other promotional materials.
Liability
Parents must sign a contract with the studio with the understanding that dance is a physical activity and there is an element of physical risk involved. All students are required to be covered by their own insurance, and if an injury occurs, it is understood that the student and their family are responsible for any medical cost.
The Health Waiver contract is available on the back of the registration form. Students will not be able to dance unless this waiver is signed and on file in the office.
Medical Limitations
All medical limitations must be noted upon registration with the studio. Failure to note such a condition is equal to assurance by the parent that such a condition does not exist.
