Combination Division: Beginning basic, recreational dance for fun.
3 - 4 Year Old Combination Class Ballet and tap movements will teach ballet positions and terminology, stress development in awareness of hand and arm movements, strengthen basic rhythm movements and tap sounds. The emphasis is on joy of movement and dance in a learning atmosphere with direction and class participation with other little ones.
5 - 7 Year Old Combination Class Designed to provide children with a basis in ballet, tap, and jazz. Students learn the basic elements of music and dance, as an individual and in groups, musical rhythm, beat and time, opposites and directions, and elementary dance steps.
Technical Division: High-energy classes will improve students' overall presentation. Emphasis is placed on technique. Students are placed in levels according to ability. Students do not move up to the next level according to the amount of years they have studied dance. They must be able to execute proper technique for each movement to the fullest for that level. Once the instructor has determined the student is ready to move up, then the student will be able to do so. Some students may take several years and others only one, according to ability, effort, and practice. Attendance does affect progression.
Ballet - Ballet is the foundation of all dance. Students do barre work, centre work, across the floor, combinations and continue to learn proper ballet terminology. Students are strongly encouraged to study ballet in addition to their other classes.
Jazz - Jazz consists of stretching and learning choreography with upbeat movements.
Lyrical - Lyrical classes may only be taken in conjunction with a technical or enhanced technical ballet class. Classes will combine both ballet and jazz techniques and will emphasize developing strength, control and flexibility. Students will learn to express the mood or theme of music through physical movement.
Tap - Students learn intricate rhythms and sounds. Tap teaches cordination and musicality.
Hip-Hop - This form of dance is seen in music videos. Hip-Hop evolved out of street and break dancing and is characterized by its athletic and bouncy style. Hip-Hop is set to a strong, contemporary beat, builds stamina, and emphasizes body isolations, attitude, coordination, free-style movement, and rhythm.
Musical Theatre - Musical theatre would be considered another genre of dance that is performed primarily to music taken from various musicals and plays. This would be considered more of an “East Coast Style”. However the technique is still driven primarily from ballet & jazz. Musical theatre is a great class to add more diversity to a dancer’s movement vocabulary and style.
Enhanced Technical Division: Ballet and jazz technique only classes are for students wishing to increase their technical skill in dance without the worry of preparing for a performance. Barre, Centre, across the floor work, and combinations will be emphasized.
Showcase Division: Showcase teams have been made to bridge the gap between the Technical Division and the Competition Division. The Showcase Division will give students the opportunity to perform at various venues throughout our surrounding communities, in addition to participating in three competitions with one to two numbers.
Competition Division: Competition teams are made up of students that have auditioned and were accepted to a team. Competition students pay for unlimited classes. Optional classes are also available in other disciplines, expanding the dancer’s world of dance making them a well rounded dancer. Dancers will participate in four regional competitions and a national competition every other year.
